Here We Go Again...

So, let's try this again...

A brief introduction/re-introduction to me. I'm Jim. I'm a math teacher (used to be a maths teacher...) now living in Maryland. I've been blogging since 2010, and I used to do it a lot. Living in London from 2013 onwards, I even organised YA-focused events. Then I got a promotion which took a ton of my time, and blogging kinda fell by the wayside, until earlier this year. Back in January (after the structure changed at the college I was working at, freeing up more of my time) I thought I'd get back into the swing of things, because 2020 should be a good year to make a fresh start at stuff, without anything dragging me down.

We're all laughing hollowly at this point, right?

From March onwards, mixture of the pandemic and trying to get a US visa during said pandemic kinda screwed stuff up. Six months down the line, I'm settled in Maryland, waiting for a social security number, also waiting for a job (which is sorta dependent on ever getting that SSN!) And, for the moment at least, I'm back with a decent amount of spare time. Plus, I've been reading a ton of great books, so I'm excited to share my thoughts on them with you!

In addition to reading, hobbies include watching movies and TV (although I doubt I'll make it back to the cinema for a while, sadly), playing board games, spending time with our gorgeous dog Chloe (see picture below!) and solving and (recently) constructing crosswords, both UK and US style. Check back over the next few days for a couple of book-related sample ones... With the amount of spare time I have, I'm also currently studying Spanish on Duolingo and doing the Adidas Running/Training apps in a possibly doomed attempt to get ever so slightly less unfit than I've been for much of my life!

The plan here is to focus mostly on books, with reviews of some of my favorite reads, top ten lists, and monthly previews/recaps. However I'm also hoping to bring you recommendations of TV shows/films/board games, regular crosswords (mostly book-themed questions) and perhaps a little about settling down in the USA.

I'm really excited to be back and looking forward to being pretty active, hopefully! If you like the idea of book-themed crosswords, leave me a comment or hit me up on Twitter @yayeahyeah - feel free to get requests in for particular authors or books you'd like me to focus on!

Oh, and as promised, here's Chloe!
