Indie Advent: Louie Stowell on Stoke Newington Bookshop

Delighted to have my #DrinkYA co-conspirator Louie Stowell on the blog today talking about the wonderful-sounding Stoke Newington Bookshop!

Name and location of shop: Stoke Newington Bookshop

Why you love it: The staff know their onions, and I'd trust their recs. Fantastic comics/GN section and kids'/YA section. Also, they're dog friendly, which my small dog Buffy is always grateful for, as whenever she goes, they make a huge fuss. Lots of beautiful hardbacks on display, too, including some gorgeous cookbooks. They get involved in the Stoke Newington Literary Festival and generally give me a real sense of community. Lovely shop all round.

What one book would you buy from there as a Christmas present, and who would you give it to: I usually pick things up at random that appeal to me, so I don't have a particular book in mind. But I'd definitely head straight to the comics section and pick out one of the lovely hardbacks there to tempt a comics virgin into trying a new medium. Perhaps Sally Heathcote, Suffragette? By Mary Talbot, Kate Charlesworth and Bryan Talbot. (If I buy one I don't have myself already then it will never get to the present wrapping stage… at least, not without being read first)

Check out Stoke Newington Bookshop's website and Twitter, and catch Louie herself on Twitter - both at her account, and at @MeetUKYA along with me.
